A cephalopod is a molluscan belonging to the class Cephalopoda, encompassing various marine creatures such as squids, octopuses, cuttlefish, and nautiluses. These organisms are distinctive for their bilateral body symmetry, well-developed head, and the presence of arms or tentacles derived from the primitive molluscan foot. Due to their unique capability to release ink, cephalopods are occasionally referred to as "inkfish" by fishermen. The examination and investigation of cephalopods constitute a specialized field within malacology called teuthology.
