The Bothidae, also commonly referred to as lefteye flounders, comprise a family of flounders. This classification is due to their characteristic behavior of resting on the sea floor with their right sides, while their eyes are positioned on the left sides. One distinguishing feature of this family is the presence of spines around the snout and near the eyes. Notably, lefteye flounders exhibit significant size variations across the 160+ species, with lengths ranging from 4.5 cm (1.8 in) to 1.5 m (4.9 ft).
