Anthias

Anthiinae

Anthias are considered members of the family Serranidae and comprise the subfamily Anthiinae. It is important to note that the name Anthiidae has already been assigned to a subfamily of ground beetles within the family Carabidae, established by Bonelli in 1813. Therefore, this particular grouping should be referred to as the Anthiadinae. However, both the 5th Edition of Fishes of the World and Fishbase designate the subfamily of Serranidae as "Anthiinae."
