The Plectranthias winniensis, commonly referred to as the redblotch basslet, belongs to the family Serranidae and is found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Its geographical distribution extends from the 🌊 Red Sea and the eastern coast of Africa to the Hawaiian, Tuamoto, and Pitcairn Islands, and further south to the Great Barrier Reef and the Austral Islands (🇵🇫 French Polynesia).

This species can attain a maximum length of 4 cm (1.6 in).

The species derives its name from a location called Winnie’s, described by the original author as a "most pleasant place on the island of Mahé in the 🇸🇨 Seychelles."

There are no known major threats to this species.
