The species Plectroglyphidodon lacrymatus, commonly referred to as the whitespotted devil or jewel damselfish, is indigenous to the Indo-Pacific region and can attain a maximum length of approximately 10 centimeters (3.9 inches).
This species primarily subsists on benthic algae and is known for its territorial behavior, rigorously defending algae-rich areas against encroachment by other species, including human divers.
