The etymology of its genus name, Hemiramphus, is derived from Greek—where 'hemi' signifies 'half' and 'rhamphos' means 'bill' or 'beak.'

This species is geographically distributed within the 🌊 Western Indian Ocean, specifically confined to the 🌊 Red Sea and the 🌊 Persian Gulf, with potential occurrences in the 🌊 Gulf of Aden.
