The Yellow Ruddertail Dragonet (Callionymus flavus) is a small, tropical marine fish typically found in the 🌊 Western Indian Ocean, specifically in the 🌊 Red Sea. This species is known to inhabit reef-associated environments, usually within a depth range of 2 to 46 meters (6.5 to 150 feet), but it is most commonly found between 2 to 8 meters (6.5 to 26 feet). The Yellow Ruddertail Dragonet reaches a maximum size of about 5 centimeters (approximately 2 inches).
One distinctive feature of this fish is its first dorsal fin, which displays a black area toward the back. The genus name "Callionymus" originates from Greek, meaning "with a better name," combining "kallion" (comparative of "kallos," meaning beautiful) and "onyma" (meaning name). This elegant nomenclature reflects the fish's striking appearance and the graceful nature often found within this group.
