Randall’s Dragonet, scientifically known as Diplogrammus randalli, is a small, tropical marine fish found in the 🌊 Western Indian Ocean, specifically as an endemic species in the 🌊 Red Sea. This species is typically found in demersal zones, meaning it lives and feeds near the sea floor, usually at shallow depths ranging from 1 to 10 meters (3 to 33 feet). The maximum length of Randall's Dragonet is approximately 7 centimeters (about 2.8 inches).
This fish has a preference for habitats with harsh sandy environments. In the face of danger, Randall’s Dragonet has a unique behavior of choosing to flee rather than burrowing into the sand for protection.
The genus name Diplogrammus is derived from Greek, with "diploos" meaning twice, and "gramma" meaning mark or signal, reflecting some characteristic feature of these fish within the genus.
