Magnus’ Blenny (Alticus magnusi) is a tropical marine fish first described by T.C. Schmidt in 1931. Typically found in the Western 🌊 Indian Ocean, specifically in the 🌊 Red Sea around the coasts of 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia and 🇪🇬 Egypt, this small fish reaches a size of about 7 cm (2.8 inches). The Magnus' Blenny inhabits shallow, rocky shores and intertidal zones, up to a depth of 30 meters (100 feet). Uniquely adapted to life both in and out of water, it is capable of facultative air-breathing, allowing it to rest outside of water in the intertidal zone.
A notable subspecies, Lophalticus kirkii magnusi, differs from its nominal counterpart by having a rounded dorsal flap over the neck instead of a triangular and pointed one. The genus name "Alticus" is derived from the Latin word "altus," meaning nutritious.
