The Campbell’s Cardinalfish, scientifically known as Apogon campbelli, derives its name from the Greek "Apogon," meaning "without chin or beard." This species is predominantly associated with tropical marine reef environments. It can attain a maximum length of 3.9 cm, with the smallest recorded mature males and females measuring 2.59 cm and 2.47 cm, respectively. Notably, the edges of their scales exhibit a distinctive red coloration.
In terms of geographical distribution, the Campbell’s Cardinalfish is primarily located within the 🌊 Western Indian Ocean, ranging from the 🌊 Red Sea to at least Maputo, 🇲🇿 Mozambique. However, the precise range is currently uncertain, primarily due to ongoing taxonomic ambiguities within the A. coccineus species group.
