Crown Butterflyfish

The 🇪🇷 Eritrean butterflyfish, scientifically known as Chaetodon paucifasciatus, is a species of marine ray-finned fish in the family Chaetodontidae. It is primarily found in the 🌊 Red Sea and the 🌊 Gulf of Aden, with occasional sightings in East Africa. This fish can grow up to 14 cm (5.5 in) in length and displays a distinct coloration. Its body is white with black chevrons, complemented by a red zone that extends from the aft dorsal fin to the end of the anal fin. Additionally, a red bar runs vertically through the caudal fin, while black eyestripes and a black "crown" with a white border complete its unique appearance.

🇪🇷 Eritrean butterflyfish are oviparous and form monogamous pairings during breeding. They are commonly found in pairs or small groups, typically inhabiting coral and rubble areas at depths ranging from 1m to 30m. Their diet consists of coral polyps, gorgonians, algae, polychaete worms, and small crustaceans. Due to its adaptability in aquarium settings, this fish is highly sought after by hobbyists.
