Hermit crabs

Hermit crabs are classified as anomuran decapod crustaceans belonging to the superfamily Paguroidea. They have successfully adapted to their environment by utilizing empty scavenged mollusc shells, which serve to safeguard their delicate exoskeletons. With a vast number exceeding 800 species, the majority of hermit crabs possess an asymmetrical abdomen that remains concealed within a closely-fitting shell. Due to the soft nature of their abdominal exoskeleton, which lacks calcification, hermit crabs are compelled to seek out shelter created by other organisms. Otherwise, they face vulnerability and an inability to defend themselves effectively.
