Pleuronectidae, commonly referred to as righteye flounders, comprise a distinct family of flounders in the animal kingdom. These species have acquired their name due to their characteristic positioning on the sea bottom, where they predominantly rest on their left sides, while their eyes are situated on their right sides. Conversely, the Paralichthyidae family exhibits an opposite arrangement, with eyes positioned on the left side. It is worth noting that within the Pleuronectidae family, a select few species, namely those belonging to the genus Platichthys, may exhibit the uncommon occurrence of left-sided eye placement.
