The eeltail catfish belong to the family Plotosidae, characterized by their elongated tails resembling those of eels. These catfish are indigenous to the 🌊 Indian Ocean and western Pacific, spanning from 🇯🇵 Japan to 🇦🇺 Australia and 🇫🇯 Fiji. With a total of approximately 41 species distributed across 10 genera, this family showcases a diverse range of members. Notably, around half of these species inhabit freshwater environments, specifically in 🇦🇺 Australia and 🇵🇬 New Guinea.
