Bigeyes

The Priacanthidae, commonly known as bigeyes, encompass a family consisting of 18 diverse species of marine ray-finned fishes. Some members of this family are also commonly referred to as "Catalufa". The scientific name of Priacanthidae originates from the family's distinctive feature of having very rough, spined scales. The common name of "bigeye" stems from the significantly large eyes possessed by these species, which are well-suited to their carnivorous and nocturnal nature. Typically, Priacanthidae exhibit vibrant red coloration, although certain species may display patterns in silver, dusky brown, or black. While most species generally attain a maximum total length of around 30 cm (12 in), a few species have been documented to grow over 50 cm (20 in) in length.
