Hippocampus

A seahorse is a small marine fish found in the genus Hippocampus, encompassing a total of 46 species. The term "Hippocampus" is derived from the Ancient Greek words "hippókampos" (ἱππόκαμπος), which translates to "horse," and "kámpos" (κάμπος), meaning "sea monster" or "sea animal." Possessing a head and neck resembling that of a horse, seahorses also possess segmented bony armor, maintain an upright posture, and feature a curled prehensile tail. They are classified within the family Syngnathidae, alongside pipefishes and seadragons.
