Sign in to identify your photo
Drop an underwater photo and we compare it against every species in the catalogue, then hand you the best matches with a link to each card.
Five identifications a month are free. The count follows your account rather than the device, which is the only reason we ask you to sign in. Photo identification is coming to the iPhone and Android apps as well, and it will draw on the same count.
Continue with a social account - yours will be created automatically.
Drop a photo
Straight off the camera or the phone. HEIC from an iPhone works, so there is nothing to convert first.
We compare it to the catalogue
Not to stock images of aquarium fish: to photographs taken in the Red Sea, of the species you can actually meet here.
You get a shortlist
The best matches with a confidence figure, each linked to its card: size, habits, and whether it is the one you should not touch.
- Bad shots are the normal case. Blurry, backlit, half a fish behind a coral head. That is what underwater photography looks like, and the answer is often still right.
- It only knows the Red Sea. Show it a cat and it will say so rather than pick the fish it resembles most.
- Your photo stays yours. It is never published on the site and never shown to other divers.
Five identifications a month are free, and they reset on the first. After that it is a pack that never expires, or a subscription if you dive often.
