Manta rays are considered to be part of the genus Mobula and are characterized as large rays. The more sizable species, M. birostris, boasts a remarkable width of 7 m (23 ft), whereas the smaller variant, M. alfredi, measures up to 5.5 m (18 ft). These rays feature distinctively triangular pectoral fins, horn-shaped cephalic fins, and notable forward-facing mouths. The taxonomic classification places them within the Myliobatiformes order, specifically in the family Myliobatidae. Notably, manta rays possess the largest brains and highest brain to body ratio amongst all fish species, enabling them to successfully pass the mirror test.
