The Gymnothorax reticularis, commonly referred to as the dusky-banded moray, reticulated moray, net moray, or spotted moray, is a species of moray eel indigenous to the western Pacific and 🌊 Indian Oceans. Notably, in 2013, a single specimen was documented in the Mediterranean Sea near 🇮🇱 Israel. The species was first described by Marcus Elieser Bloch in 1795.

Why it's threatened

This species is infrequently taken as bycatch in bottom trawls in some parts of its range, such as off Pakistan, India, and Myanmar (Psomadakis et al. 2015, 2020; Kumar et al. 2020); however, it is a low-value fish and is usually discarded (Kumar et al. 2020). It is not thought to negatively affect the population. There are no known major threats.

Threat classification from the IUCN Red List.
