The Rosy Goatfish (Parupeneus rubescens) is a marine species associated with tropical reefs and is typically found at depths of less than 200 meters. The species can attain a maximum length of 43 cm, though a more common size observed is around 23 cm.

Exhibiting variable coloration, this fish may sometimes feature a distinctive black saddle on its caudal peduncle. It habitually resides on sandy substrates and in the turbid waters of coastal regions.

Geographically, the Rosy Goatfish is distributed across the Indo-West Pacific, spanning the 🌊 Red Sea and 🌊 Persian Gulf, extending southward to 🇿🇦 South Africa, including Struisbaai, and reaching eastward into the western Pacific. It is also present in the Southeast Atlantic, notably along the coast of 🇿🇦 South Africa.

The name "Parupeneus" derives from the Latin words "parum" or "parvum," meaning small, combined with "Peneus," the name of a river.
