Overview

Rick's Reef is defined by where it ends. It sits 300 m north of the Canyon, and the dive is a shallow drift south along the shore that delivers the diver to the Canyon's Fish Bowl and then out through the Canyon's own coral garden and lagoon. Entry is through a small opening in the reef table onto a slope of salad coral, with table corals standing at 18 m and a run of pinnacles along the wall.

Dive plan

The descent is down the salad coral slope from the entry notch, and the current does the rest. The route follows the shore south for around 35 minutes, working the pinnacles along the wall and the table corals at 18 m. The drift finishes at the Fish Bowl, the glassfish chamber at the mouth of the Canyon, and the exit is through the Canyon coral garden and its sandy lagoon rather than back the way it came.

What to see

The pinnacles hold the fish: anthias over the tops, coral groupers sitting in the gaps, pufferfish and parrotfish working the coral. The slope itself is a coral dive, salad coral on the way down and table corals standing clear of the sand at 18 m.
