# Morse Hogfish (*Bodianus rubrisos*)

**Taxon:** Wrasse (*Labridae*)
**Conservation Status:** DD - Data Deficient

Bodianus rubrisos, commonly known as the red-sashed hogfish or morsecode pigfish, is a species of wrasse found in the tropical and warm temperate waters of the Indo-West Pacific, with notable populations in Japan, Taiwan, and Indonesia. Additionally, this species has been observed off the coast of Australia, particularly at Scott Reef in Western Australia and in the Arafura Sea off the Northern Territory.

The specific nomenclature, *rubrisos*, is derived from the Latin term "rubri," meaning "red," and the letters "sos," reflecting the species' distinctive coloration pattern reminiscent of Morse code.
