# Pempheris nesogallica (*Pempheris nesogallica*)

**Taxon:** Sweepers (*Pempheridae*)

The Pempheris nesogallica is a marine, pelagic-neritic tropical species, reaching a maximum length of 13.9 cm. It is characterized by its total of 6 dorsal spines, accompanied by 9 to 10 dorsal soft rays, 3 anal spines, and 38 to 41 anal soft rays. The species possesses 25 vertebrae. Notable distinguishing features include 52 to 59 pored lateral-line scales, 5.5 scale rows above the lateral line, and 16 circumpeduncular scales. The absence of a blackish spot on the pectoral fin base and a blackish tip on the dorsal fin are characteristic, along with a chest that is typically keeled but occasionally only weakly or not at all. The eye diameter measures between 11.6% and 12.8% of the standard length, and 39.4% to 42.3% of the head length. It has a very deep body, constituting 46.1% to 53.4% of the standard length. The paired fins are pink.

This species is widely distributed in the western Indian Ocean but has only been documented in the southern part of the Red Sea.
