# Redblotched Perchlet (*Plectranthias winniensis*)

The Plectranthias winniensis, commonly referred to as the redblotch basslet, belongs to the family Serranidae and is found throughout the Indo-Pacific region. Its geographical distribution extends from the Red Sea and the eastern coast of Africa to the Hawaiian, Tuamoto, and Pitcairn Islands, and further south to the Great Barrier Reef and the Austral Islands.

This species can attain a maximum length of 4 cm (1.6 in).

The species derives its name from a location called Winnie’s, described by the original author as a "most pleasant place on the island of Mahé in the Seychelles."
