# Keiji's Hermit Crab (*Pylopaguropsis keijii*)

Pylopaguropsis keijii, commonly referred to as Keiji's Hermit Crab, is a tiny hermit crab species measuring up to 1 centimeter (0.4 inches) in length. This fascinating creature is found in the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from the Red Sea to Hawaii. It typically inhabits reef ecosystems and areas with rubble, thriving at depths accessible to scuba divers.

What distinguishes Keiji's Hermit Crab is its vivid coloration. The body of the crab is golden, while the legs and left claw are strikingly magenta, creating an eye-catching contrast. The right claw, however, is larger and has a fleshy appearance, usually in shades of cream or pink.

Despite its vivid colors, the small size and reclusive nature make this hermit crab difficult to spot, often eluding even seasoned divers and underwater photographers. Pylopaguropsis keijii belongs to the Paguridae family and was first described by McLaughlin & Haig in 1989.
