- Pinnacles

## Overview

This dive site features an oval reef, encompassed by a shelf descending to depths of 15-30m. To the west, this shelf expands into a sandy flat, while on the east, it narrows significantly to form a ledge.

## Location

The dive site is situated approximately 90 minutes' travel time from downtown Hurghada.

## Conditions

Much like Umm Gamaar, this dive site is situated in the open ocean, rendering it vulnerable to prevailing weather conditions. Due to the nature of the deep wall dive, some prior experience is a prerequisite for divers.

## Dive plan

This exposed reef has claimed at least three shipwrecks over time.

The south plateau is accessible for diving directly from the mooring. This area presents a sloping, partially coral-covered garden adorned with small pinnacles. Here lie the remains of an Egyptian army-supply ship that sank while on its way to Shedwan Island.

The east side features a natural drift dive, commencing from the north and following an impressive wall. Another of the reef's wrecks, the dive safari boat Colona IV, rests here, though its depth unfortunately places it beyond the reach of recreational divers.

## What to see

This site stands out as one of Hurghada's select locations offering a good likelihood of encountering grey reef sharks, particularly during afternoon dives. Divers exploring here may also come across giant morays, impressive groupers, and napoleon wrasse. Additionally, pelagic species such as tuna and big-eyed trevally are frequently observed hunting within this area.

## Species recorded here (5)

- Bigeye Trevally (*Caranx sexfasciatus*)
- Giant Moray (*Gymnothorax javanicus*)
- Grey Reef Shark (*Carcharhinus amblyrhynchos*)
- Napoleon Wrasse (*Cheilinus undulatus*)
- Yellowfin Tuna (*Thunnus albacares*)
