## Overview

Ras Disha opens onto a shallow sand plateau with pinnacles scattered across it and an oval erg to the south. What separates it from the coral sites nearby is that most of what lives here lives in the sand rather than on the reef. Northwest the plateau narrows into a ledge and then falls away as a sheer wall.

## Location

About 90 minutes from central Hurghada.

## Conditions

Inside the bay and sheltered from wind, which keeps it open to any level of diver, though current can run strong at times.

## Dive plan

The beacon on the main reef marks the start of a drift north along the wall, finishing among the pinnacles on the plateau.

From the mooring the alternative runs the drop-off first, then a half circle back across the plateau past the pinnacles to the boat. The pinnacle nearest the main reef is the one to keep gas for.

## What to see

Bannerfish, butterflyfish, parrotfish and surgeonfish work the wall together. On the sand, Moses sole, bluespotted ribbontail rays and leopard torpedo rays excavate for buried crustaceans, while partner gobies keep watch at the mouths of burrows they share with shrimp, dropping in the instant either one is startled. The pinnacles are split by cracks and small caverns, and all of them are filled with glassfish.
