## Overview

Moray Garden is also called Sharks Caves, and the alternative name is wrong twice over: there are no caves here and no sharks. What there are is giant morays, in numbers, holding the coral heads across a shallow reef and out in the open often enough that the site is dived for them specifically. A third name, Orca House Reef, comes from the dive centre in front of it.

## Location

8 km south of Dahab, just south of the Happy Life Village.

## Conditions

Shore entry with a short walk, medium current and good visibility. Shallow enough for any level, and used regularly for night dives.

## Dive plan

The dive works the coral heads in the shallows, where the morays are, and there is no reason to go deep: the site tops out at 25 m and the interest is all above 15 m. A slow pass over the same heads on the way back usually turns up eels that were not showing on the way out.

## What to see

Giant morays are the site. They hold the same heads over long periods, so a guide who dives here often knows where individual animals live. The rest of the reef carries the usual shallow community, and after dark the sand takes over.
