# Meet Red Sea Creatures - The Reef, in Your Pocket

The Red Sea is one of the most extraordinary places on the planet. More than a thousand species of fish, hundreds of corals, and a remarkable number of creatures found absolutely nowhere else on Earth. Anyone who has dipped their head under its surface knows the feeling - that there's a whole living world down there, busy and brilliant and a little bit alien.

I wanted a companion worthy of it. So I built one.

**[Red Sea Creatures](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/red-sea-creatures/id6783286953)** is a free app: a field guide to the marine life of the Red Sea, and a companion for everyone who loves it - divers, snorkelers, and the merely curious. You don't need an account to explore. Just open it and dive in.

Here's what it does.

## Know what you're looking at

At the heart of the app is a catalog of hundreds of species - fish, sharks, rays, turtles, corals, nudibranchs and more - organized by family, so it actually makes sense.

Tap any creature and you get the full picture: photographs, common and scientific names, habitat, size, the depths it lives at, and clear flags for whether it's **dangerous, venomous, poisonous,** or a **Red Sea endemic**. You'll also find its **conservation status** - straight from the IUCN Red List and CITES - because knowing which species are vulnerable, and why, is part of diving responsibly.

## Plan your dive

The app isn't just for identifying what you saw - it helps you decide where to go next.

* **Dive sites** with maps, depth, conditions, dive plans, and the marine life you can expect to meet at each one.
* **Dive centers** across the Red Sea, so you know who to dive with. Filter sites and centers by city and country to find your spot in seconds.
* **Live dive weather** for your city - air and water temperature, wind, humidity - plus a **wetsuit recommendation** for the day. No more guessing at 6 a.m. what to pack.

## A glance is all you need

* **Widgets** bring the reef to your Home Screen: a different Red Sea creature every hour, and live dive weather, in three sizes. Add water temperature and today's wetsuit tip to your **Lock Screen** too.
*   **Search** everything instantly.
* **Light and dark themes**, built for the bright deck of a boat and the dark of a night dive alike.
* **Notifications** when there's something genuinely new worth your time.

## Read, listen, learn

There's more to the sea than a checklist of species.

* A **blog** full of guides, species spotlights, and stories from the reef.
* A calendar of **marine awareness events** worth knowing.
* A **podcast** you can keep playing in the background while you browse.

Make it yours

Create an account - with Apple, Google, Facebook, Discord, or X - and the app becomes personal:

* **Save your favourite creatures** and find them again anytime.
* **Review dive sites and centers**, and comment on creatures and articles.
* **Build a diver profile** with your bio, agency, certification level, and links - so the community knows who they're sharing the reef with.

And if you'd rather just look around, that's completely fine. Everything above is yours to explore, account or not.

## Why I made it

People protect what they love. The Red Sea is unique and fragile, and the more of us fall for it - really fall for it, species by species - the better its chances. That's why every creature carries its conservation status, and why the whole thing is free.

This app is a labour of love. I obsessed over the photography, the layouts, the way a fish fills the screen, the little details you'll never consciously notice but will quietly feel. And I'm only getting started.

So - [download](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/red-sea-creatures/id6783286953) it, open it, and meet the Red Sea, one creature at a time.

See you under the surface.
